Frankfurt. Trade fair destination. Economic powerhouse. Cultural centre.

Frankfurt has the only real skyline in Germany. But it’s not that which makes the city interesting for the cosmopolitan Daniel Libeskind, who actually lives in New York. In an interview with FOCUS magazine he names Frankfurt as “a real modern metropolis, an example for the 21st Century.” He appreciates the significance the city places on culture.

Not least because he selected Frankfurt as the location for his high profile concert project “One Day in Life” 2016: 24 hours – 18 venues in Frankfurt – 18 dimensions of life – over 75 concert events.

Mainhattan, as Frankfurters prefer to call their city because of the famous skyline, is attracting more and more people to live here. The current population is around 730,000 and is comparatively young with an average age of 40.2 years (Germany = 43.9 years). In the period up to 2035 there will be an above average population growth in Frankfurt and the city will age less than the remainder of the Federal Republic. It is expected that the population will increase to over 800,000 by 2035. A survey carried out by the statistics office Bürgeramt für Statistik und Wahlen in 2016 shows that around 80% of the population are satisfied with life in Frankfurt. They praise the international outlook of the city, the economic strength and cosmopolitan flair, which make Frankfurt so attractive.

Science City – Riedberg

State-of-the-art architecture meets hi-tech. With views of the city skyline from Frankfurt’s newest district Riedberg, it is possible to enjoy the fresh air blowing into the city from the Taunus mountains. Since 2004, the area has meanwhile been developed with modern residential properties and a complete set of infrastructure for a population of over 10,000: from children’s day nurseries and schools to the underground railway stations and bus stops to the churches, retail amenities, medical centres and restaurants – this is a lively district with short distances. Riedberg offers a well-balanced mix of living and working with the many parks and public open spaces and a significant sports and leisure scene. Daniel Libeskind’s VERVE is located right in the centre of everything, directly next to the park.

The central pivotal point of Science City Frankfurt-Riedberg is the Goethe-University. This now concentrates all its natural science faculties on its campus at Riedberg. There are also a number of renowned research institutes such as the Max-Planck-Institut für Biophysik (biophysics), the Max-Planck-Institut für Gehirnforschung (brain research), the Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies (FIAS) and globally active technology companies which have become established here.
